St Patrick's Pupils Pitch to DG Consultancy

30 Year 9 pupils from St Patrick's R C High School visited Salford's Innovation Forum and pitched their ideas to DG Consultancy director Delphine Greenhalgh.

Following her visit to St Patrick's last November to talk to pupils about the application of languages in her work with export markets, Delphine set them a challenge with a brief to research the feasibility of launching a new biscuit product in the French and Morroccan markets.

Six teams presented their work in true, professional style and saw their efforts rewarded with Award Certificates and prizes for the winning teams.

Following the presentations Delphine said, 'when I gave St Patrick’s pupils the research project a few months ago, I knew it would be a challenge for them. All six groups worked really hard and more than exceeded my expectations in terms of findings, innovative and fun ideas and knowledge of the French language. It was very hard to choose a winner'

When asked if the project had helped them improve their understanding of languages in the workplace, pupils said:

'I never thought much about languages, but now I like languages and have decided to take it as an option!'

'learning a language isn't always about using it on holiday but in different jobs, bacause it is very useful especially in business.'

'I hadn't realised there were so many jobs that involved languages.'

'I now understand how important a language is and also I've seen an actual workplace which made me understand more.'
