Think Language and Culture

Language and cultural issues affect every business to varying degrees - from hotels and restaurants to factories, call centres and offices.

Any business where people need to communicate - whether with customers overseas, tourist visitors to the region or staff whose first language isn't English - would benefit from language and culture skills training.

Consider the following scenarios:

  • An overseas client repeatedly fails to respond to your payment requests in English.
  • A Punjabi speaking factory worker struggles to read an English health and safety instructions poster.
  • A profoundly deaf person needs to attend a training session at work and no one else uses British Sign Language (BSL).
  • A Japanese businessman misinterprets his UK colleague's office banter as rudeness, because he's not used to UK business culture.

Tackling language and cultural barriers that might arise from these situations could result in gaining business, improving performance, and ensuring the efficient and smooth running of your business.
