VALEUR Project

The VALEUR (Valuing All Languages in Europe) project has now produced a draft 'map' of all the languages spoken in the 22 countries represented and the educational provision available for them. The picture emerging is one of a very large number of languages in use across Europe (at least 438), but of educational provision for only a small proportion of these. The aim is to raise awareness about these 'invisible' languages and their contribution to multilingual Europe.

The project will produce multilingual material presenting the findings and recommendations in an accessible form, as well as a publication. In the UK, the issue of provision for languages in higher education and in particular the curriculum, working across sectors, and teacher education was the focus for the third biennial conference for languages in higher education, which ran at Cardiff University during July..
